Recording: completing ‘What Kind Of Privilege Is This?’

Finally, we’re finishing up with …Privilege… It feels like we went through this at break-neck speed! I guess by combining bass and rhythm guitars, and vocals and percussion, we kind of did.

Perhaps its personal nature spurred me on. Nonetheless, let’s get this done!

Completing What Kind Of Privilege Is This?: rig run down

Obviously, that’s just standard stuff.

Completing What Kind Of Privilege Is This?

So, I realized that my process for completing a song in BandLab after it was all tracked was the same. Therefore, going forward, I can just refer you to this handy six step guide.

Now, every song is different, so you’re welcome to adjust the guide as your song needs. So use your ears!

For example, with …Privilege…, the snare of the drums didn’t have quite as much snap as I like. So, I added BandLab’s EQ effect to try and bring it our better.

Conclusion

Pros
Cons
Drums: I didn’t have to muddle through with my patchy drumming! Drums: I wasn’t recording it; therefore, I wasn’t as in control of the input
Bass and rhythm guitars: it was nice to blitz through them Timing: I should have put a count in at the start, because it’s ropey – perhaps BandLab could show the other tracks during recording?
Vocals: in quieter vocals – for example, verses – ‘S’ sounds at the end of words don’t come out super-clear

In conclusion, this is how we leave things with …Privilege…
